Top Tips For Redecorating Your Home

Redecorating your home can be a fun process, but only if you know where to start and how to reach the end result you have in mind. Without some sort of plan, you could find that your ideas fall by the wayside and things remain unfinished for longer than you’d like.

So how do you kickstart your project in the right way? Let’s find out.

Collect Your Designs

It’s likely that you’ve already got together a physical or virtual mood board for your ideas, and if you haven’t, that should be your first port of call. Collate list of everything you like, at this stage, you don’t have to be too picky, but it would be helpful to create a separate board for each room of your home so you don’t mix up your ideas.

Once you have a jumble of ideas, time is key. Before you begin narrowing down your choices, step away from the designs for a few days and come back with fresh eyes. This new outlook on your choices will enable you to begin ruthlessly deleting them until only your final decisions are left.

Estimate Your Costs

Now you have a firm idea of how you want your home to look, its time to begin estimating the costs. If you’re in the mood for DIY, you’ll probably find that you can recreate many of your ideas by watching tutorials online. Simple updates such as painting the walls or hanging new wallpaper can also become easy when you know the best methods. Of course, if you’re not into DIY, you can easily get quotes from local tradespeople by looking online or scouring the local newspaper adverts.

Prepare Your Space

Whether you’ve hired a tradesperson or are carrying out the job yourself, you’ll need to ensure the space is clear enough to be able to crack on with the task efficiently.

If you’re painting the interior of your home by yourself, you’ll need sheeting to cover your floors and furnishings. If you hire a tradesperson, they will usually have everything they require themselves.

Finishing Touches

From your mood boards that were made earlier, you may already know the exact finishing touches you want to invest in. Sometimes, however, it can be a good idea to wait until you see your ideas in real life. Things will start to feel like they’re all coming together at this stage and the addition of your window dressings and soft furnishings will complete your project.
